Leading for Learning
One of CDL's most successful programs is Leading for Learning, what we call L4L. With desired outcomes of increased student achievement for all students and increased and sustainable school capacity, L4L brings together the members of school leadership teams, and focuses on five themes:

  • Establishing a Culture of Learning
  • Understanding Change
  • Focusing on Quality Instruction and Assessment
  • Building and Sharing Knowledge
  • Developing Coherence through Planning

L4L has a laser focus on improving instruction:

  • Develop leadership and instructional and assessment expertise
  • Combine knowledge of change with instruction and leadership that focuses on improving student learning

School Leadership Teams comprised of principals and four to six key teacher leaders work together to build their collective instructional leadership capacity. They begin by attending a two-day summer institute. That session is followed by three single days of follow-up during the school year. Teams work on their individual job-embedded school assignments and report progress to the larger group at each meeting.

The L4L Faculty includes international leadership experts Carol Rolheiser and Joanne Quinn of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, and Louisiana leadership experts Dale Hair and Betty Kraft of the Center for Development and Learning.

Currently, L4L is held in the greater New Orleans area and at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond with new school leadership teams joining the continuing group at each summer session, generally held in early June of each year. For information about joining the South Louisiana L4L Series, contact CDL.

CDL can also begin a series in your district or geographic area with a minimum number of schools. Contact us for information about building a Leading for Learning Series in your area.
