General Institute Questions
What is the price of the Institute?
$645 if you register before 10/15/17
$745 if you register between 10/15/17 and 2/22/18
$795 Onsite Only after 2/22/18
*Register 5 or more people at the same time, and receive a discount of $30.00 per person for each person in the group.
Where are the Institute functions located?
All conference sessions, registration and exhibit area will be located at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. Click here to book your accommodations.
What is the dress code?
Business casual. It is always difficult to control the room temperature in large meeting rooms, and the rooms often tend to be cold. Please bring a sweater or jacket to insure your comfort.

What exactly are Exhibitors?
Our Exhibitors include a variety of corporations, publishers, and schools, who offer products and services. Visiting them is a great way to learn one-on-one about amazing products including the latest remediation tools, assistive technology and more! Are meals provided to Institute attendees?
Yes, your registration fee includes continental breakfast and lunch each day and afternoon refreshments on Monday and Tuesday of the Institute.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
All meals will have gluten free and vegan choices. If you have a medical condition that results in special dietary needs other than this, please contact CDL not less than 10 days prior to the event date so that requested arrangements can be made. Email Denise at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How can I be active on Social Media before/during/after the Plain Talk Institute?
CDL will be tweeting from @cdlteach and posting on our facebook page, facebook.com/cdl.org. Join the conversation or share your thoughts about the Plain Talk about Literacy and Learning Institute on Twitter and Facebook. Use the hashtag #PlainTalkNOLA. Be sure to check regularly, as there will be contests throughout the Institute.
What does the registration fee include?
The registration fee includes your tuition for the event, continental breakfast, lunch, and all materials. Travel costs, parking, and overnight accommodations are not included in the registration fee.
What are my payment options?
Credit card (VISA, Mastercard, Discover, Amex), check, or purchase order (PO).
I only want to come to the Institute for one day (one session, half a day, etc.). Is there a discounted rate?
Unfortunately, we do not offer discounted rates for attendees who can only attend part of the Institute. We encourage all registrants to make an effort to attend the entire Institute so that they can maximize their learning experience.
If my district is paying with a PO and I do not have the PO with me, am I still able to register for the event?
Yes, you complete the registration process online. Select “PO” as your method of payment and click the Finish button. You can send your purchase order in one of three ways:
- Fax your PO to the Center for Development and Learning, Attn: Cindy Phillips at (504) 840-9968.
- Mail your PO to: Center for Development and Learning, Attn: Cindy Phillips, One Galleria Blvd. Suite 903, Metairie, LA 70001.
- Email your PO to email@example.com.
All purchase orders should also include a copy of your registration confirmation email and/or the name and organization of each registrant the PO applies to. Once the PO is received, the district/school will be invoiced.
Who should I make my check/purchase order payable to?
Please make all checks and purchase orders payable to The Center for Development and Learning.
How can I confirm my registration status?
When you have successfully completed the registration process online, you will receive a confirmation email that lists your confirmation number. If you have not received this email within 30 minutes of completing the registration process, please check your SPAM folder. If the email is not there, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I just completed my registration but there is an error in the information I entered. What can I do?
Please contact us at email@example.com with your corrections.
What is the refund/cancellation policy?
Registration cancellations must be received in writing via email to firstname.lastname@example.org on or before January 26, 2018. If your payment was made, CDL will process your refund less a $100 processing fee for each registration within four weeks following the Institute. If payment is outstanding when cancellation occurs, you will be invoiced for the $100 for each registration that was cancelled.
If you cancel after January 26, 2018, we cannot refund any registration fee(s) in whole or in part. If your payment is still outstanding when cancellation occurs, you will still be responsible for full payment of your registration fee(s).
No refunds will be issued for no-shows. If your payment is still outstanding, you will still be responsible for full payment of your registration fee(s).
What is the substitution policy?
If you are no longer able to attend the Institute, substitutions may be made in lieu of cancellation. Please email email@example.com with a request to substitute and we will reply with a request for specific information. Once the substitution is complete, the new registrant will receive a confirmation email.
Do I need to choose my sessions ahead of time?
No. You will be given an Institute Planner in your Institute tote bag when you check in at registration onsite. Every effort has been made to anticipate audience size for each individual session. However, there may be times when there are more people who wish to attend a session than seating allows. Many rooms are furnished to capacity in compliance with local fire codes and safety requirements which prohibit standing or sitting in the aisles or the addition of more chairs.
Please note alternative choices for each time slot on your Personal Institute Planner. This will allow you to quickly locate an alternate session if your first choice is full.
Can I get handouts for the presentation?
Many presenters have provided supporting handout materials for his/her presentation. All Institute handouts will be made available online approximately 7-10 days before the Institute and for a short period of time thereafter. You will be provided a special code via email before the event that will allow you to access the Institute handouts.
Can I get a certificate of attendance?
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org after the event to receive an electronic copy of your certificate of attendance. Be sure to retain your program book and handouts as they may be needed to secure the credit. It is the sole discretion of your school, school district, state education agency or professional organization whether the Institute’s sessions are acceptable for continuing education.
How do I get to the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel?

From West: Follow Interstate-10 to Downtown/East/Slidell, exiting at Poydras Street. Off-ramp becomes Poydras Street. Follow Poydras south until it ends at the hotel’s front circle drive entrance.
From East: Follow Interstate-10 Downtown/West, exiting at Canal St./Superdome. Follow signage to Superdome/Poydras Street, turning left onto Poydras. Follow Poydras south until it ends at the hotel’s front circle drive entrance.
Where do I park?
The Hilton owns a self-parking garage that is attached to the hotel. Overnight guests using this garage will receive 50% off the daily parking fee. Valet parking is available at the regular rate.
