Supporting Parents During School Closures

Supporting Parents During School Closures

By the Center for Development and Learning

With childcare centers and schools closed, the Center for Development and Learning has turned its attention to supporting parents during this unusual time. We know how difficult it is to balance remote working while homeschooling children with minimal guidance from schools. That is why we are committed to providing high-quality instructional support that parents can easily digest and implement during the closures and through the summer months.

Leveraging our partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education, we have recently launch two video series – Mini Literacy Lessons for K-3 and Language and Learning Right from Birth. The videos and other digital content are being distributed through our social media channels and the Department’s resource guides to every public school district.

We are also thrilled to announce a new partnership with Baton Rouge Parents Magazine to enable parents to receive text messages with updates, links to video content, and resource guides!

Language and Learning Right from Birth
Every Wednesday & Friday

Each day, three 5-minute videos based on age (infant, toddler, preschooler) plus one-pagers provide parents of our littlest learners with information about how to foster language and skill development through play and easy enrichment activities.

Mini Literacy Lessons for K-3
Every Tuesday & Thursday

These 12-14-minute videos feature a 2-minute introduction for parents about the lesson to help the parent understand the literacy concept. The following time is spent teaching the child directly as if they were in the classroom.

Where have I been the last 28 years of teaching and never encountered your wonderful resources? I got here via Reading Rockets.

My question- are your resources available in Spanish?
